Janet Lilo - Remind Me Tomorrow
Riffing the domestic and the divine, Tāmaki Makaurau based Lilo brings her family into the exhibition through vinyl ‘socks’ riveted into lei-like forms.
Her meticulous hand-drawn geometrics across Apple packaging and the crowning centre work reclaim digital potential with analogue deliverance.
The Red Square, pulsing with Lilo’s mauri is made up of carefully hand-cut layered vinyl. This implosive ode resonates the peak of Whakakoro, Lilo’s maunga in the Far North of Whangape.
Lilo pierces the membrane of what can exist in the world we claim as ‘art’ in the va we are born from and return to: the awful beauty of te kore.
